چکیده

The recovery of systolic and diastolic function during unstable angina may be modified by the repetition of brief episodes of ischemia and by the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). We studied the effects of six consecutive 5-minute cycles of no-flow ischemia and reperfusion followed by 25 minutes of recovery in isovolumic red blood cell-perfused hearts from aortic-banded rats with chronic LVH (n=8) and sham-operated control rats (n=8). At baseline (left ventricular end-diastolic pressure [LVEDP], 10

Different contributions of endothelin-A and endothelin-B receptors in postischemic cardiac dysfunction and norepinephrine overflow in rat hearts.

BACKGROUND Endothelin (ET)-1 and norepinephrine (NE) are involved in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. We investigated the role of ET-1 in ischemia/reperfusion-induced NE overflow and cardiac dysfunction using a selective ET(A) receptor antagonist (ABT-627), a selective ET(B) receptor antagonist (A-192621), and the spotting lethal (sl) rat, which carries a naturally occurring deletion in ...

Exacerbation of left ventricular ischemic diastolic dysfunction by pressure-overload hypertrophy. Modification by specific inhibition of cardiac angiotensin converting enzyme.

Hearts with compensatory pressure-overload hypertrophy show an increased intracardiac activation of angiotensin II that may contribute to ischemic diastolic dysfunction. We studied whether pressure-overload hypertrophy in response to aortic banding would result in exaggerated diastolic dysfunction during low-flow ischemia and whether the specific inhibition of the cardiac angiotensin converting...

Inhibition of tumor necrosis factor-alpha improves postischemic recovery of hypertrophied hearts.

BACKGROUND Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha has been implicated in the pathogenesis of heart failure and ischemia-reperfusion injury. Effects of TNF-alpha are initiated by membrane receptors coupled to sphingomyelinase signaling and include altered metabolism and calcium cycling, contractile dysfunction, and cell death. We postulate that pressure-overload hypertrophy results in increased myoca...

Transition from compensated hypertrophy to intrinsic myocardial dysfunction during development of left ventricular pressure-overload hypertrophy in conscious sheep. Systolic dysfunction precedes diastolic dysfunction.

BACKGROUND Patients with aortic stenosis have a period of compensated left ventricular hypertrophy but may eventually develop congestive heart failure. Previous experimental studies showed either normal myocardial contractility in mild short-term pressure overload or myocardial dysfunction with severe pressure overload. Transition from compensated left ventricular hypertrophy to myocardial dysf...
